Philosophy {Gk. filosofia [philosophia]}
Literally, love of wisdom. Hence, careful thought about the fundamental nature of the world, the grounds for human knowledge, and the evaluation of human conduct.

Phenomenology
Description of experience. Hence, a philosophical method restricted to careful analysis of the intellectual processes of which we are introspectively aware, without making any assumptions about their supposed causal connections to existent external objects. Further, the belief that the immediate objects of sensation provide NO evidence for the existence of anything beyond themselves. Taken together with basic principles of empiricism, this entails that what we usually describe as physical objects have no reality apart from our individual, private perceptual experiences of them. - For a perfect explanation of possible pitfalls see Bomb #20 from "Darkstar".

Irony
Use of language to convey something entirely different from its literal meaning.
eg. "Yes dear"

Axiom
A proposition formally accepted without demonstration, proof, or evidence as one of the starting-points for the systematic derivation of an organised body of knowledge. A self evident truth.
eg. "I drink, therefore I am."

Babblecrap
A self evident falsehood, or a paradox, or simply gibberish. Normally caused by not having your brain in gear while your mouth is flapping. Sometimes a deliberate act when 'testing' others.
eg. "All of the time, sometimes on Sunday."

Cynicism
Belief (expressed by Dodgy Knees) that the entire point of human life is the satisfaction of our most basic natural needs, without any respect for social conventions. Thus, the Compostians practice self-discipline in order to avoid the unhappiness that invariably results from any effort to pursue artificial obligations.
